From the Associated Press and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on March 28, 2008:
Riot police officers arrest a demonstrator during a protest to mark the “Day of the Young Combatant” in Santiago, Friday. The Day of the Young Combatant commemorates the killing of two young brothers by police in a 1985 protest during the 1973-90 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
fake blood is also making a comeback this season…
the simple, loose-fitting black and white combination worn by this protester not only nicely contrasts the rigid lines of the police riot gear, but it also should compliment the bruising…
MSNBC has more on the Day of the Young Combatant, including the pic of police “arresting” a protester:
Police on Thursday used tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of rock-throwing high school students who repeatedly blocked traffic on Santiago’s main avenue. Officials said 264 people were detained.
The students’ motives for demonstrating Thursday were not clear. One protester, who identified himself only as “Simon,” his face covered by a white handkerchief, said only that they were demonstrating “for the situation and for our rights.”
